1923 – 2016

RUMFORD — Lucille D. Witherell, 93, of Peru, died Friday, Nov. 4, at the Rumford Community Home.

She was born in Peru on Sept. 6, 1923, the daughter of James A. and Hazel (Curtis) Dermody Sr. She was educated in the grammar schools of West Peru and attended Rumford High School. Lucille was married to the late Earle R. Witherell on June 16, 1949, in Peru.

She was employed as a switchboard operator for Oxford Paper Co. and then New England Telephone, until her retirement. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing her violin, and loved her many cats. Her fondest memories were of her yearly trips to the coast and mountains with her sister, Nathalie.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary Fabus, and husband, Joseph Migliore, of Woolwich; three sons, James Witherell and partner, Susan Potvin, of Lewiston, John Witherell and wife, Martha, of Peru and Mark Witherell of Peru; three grandchildren, Jason Fabus and wife, Amy, of Woolwich, Devon Witherell and partner, Scott Milligan, of Rumford, Brian Witherell and wife, Tabitha, of Point Marion, Pa.; and a nephew, Mario Puiia, and wife, Lisa, of Rumford.

Lucille was predeceased by her parents; a brother, James A. Dermody Jr. (1933); her husband, Earle (1975); and a sister, Nathalie Puiia (2002).
