1923 – 2016

LEWISTON — Annette Bard, 93, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, at her home in Lewiston, surrounded by her children.

Born in Connors, New Brunswick, Canada, as Marie Annette Oakes on March 28, 1923, the daughter of William W. Oakes and Olive Dube, she married Roland A. Bard in Connors, New Brunswick, Canada, on Feb. 12, 1955.

She was a parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Church, now called the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. She worked various jobs and was devoted to her family.

When she was young, she helped at the family store selling meat, goods and homemade ice cream. Before she was married, she worked as a chauffeur for a lumber mill owner. She also worked at Bell Telephone in charge of long distance calls. She shared the story of when the war ended, the entire board of 40 operators lit up red.

Annette married and moved to Lewiston in 1955. She was a stay-at-home mom while the kids were young, then worked at the W.T. Grant store. She worked at General Electric, retiring after 16 years. After retirement she kept busy with her grandchildren, worked at the local election polls.

Annette enjoyed camping, traveling and special visits with relatives and friends.

She is survived by four children, daughters, Diane Poirier and her husband, Roland, Nancy Bard, Susan Bard Stanford and her husband, Donald, and son, Dennis Bard; grandchildren, Kristina Bouchard and husband, Christopher, Ryan Poirier and Nicole Poirier and fiancé, John Mueller; three great-grandchildren, River, Oliver and Wesley Bouchard.

Six sisters and two brothers predeceased her.
