100 years ago, 1916
The treachery of a slippery pavement and dull horseshoes was apparent yesterday when a large horse owned by Ed Jodoin, a New Auburn baker, lost his footing on Park street and fell. The horse fell in such a manner as to swing the team to the curbing and break the rear axle causing considerable damage to both the team and its contents.

50 years ago, 1966
“Hey, mommy, here comes Santa Claus,” was the cry of youngsters in downtown Lewiston and Auburn today as the jolly man in the red suit with flowing white beard arrived in the Twin Cities bringing with him a tote-bag bulging with toys and Christmas cheer. Throughout the route of the parade waving youngsters of all ages welcomed Santa to the Lewiston-Auburn area, from his home in the North Pole. Shortly before 10 o’clock, the bewhiskered gent, after safely completing an overnight trip from his home, was busy with youngsters at B. Peck Co. store on Main St. in Lewiston, where he plans to remain until Christmas Eve when he’ll make his magical yearly visits down chimneys in the Twin Cities.

25 years ago, 1991
Asbestos removal began last week at Auburn’s Clark Shoe Building, which is scheduled to be demolished to make the land on Union Street Bypass more marketable. Once that is completed, said Community Development Director Reine Mynahan, crews will tear out pipes and other metal structures inside the building before beginning on the exterior. Troy Street and Spring Street Extension are expected to be closed to through traffic during the project.
