1919 – 2016

RYE, N.H. — Adele Frances Chesley Fyfe, 97, of York, a former Auburn resident, died Friday, Nov. 18, surrounded by her loving family. She was a loving wife, mother, nana and great nana.

She was born in Lewiston on Oct. 15, 1919, the daughter of the late Earle and Edith (Estes) Chesley. In 1937 she graduated as salutatorian at Edward Little High School in Auburn. Adele went on to further her education at Simmons College in Boston where she was senior class secretary and a graduate in the School of Business and secretarial studies in 1941.

On Jan. 12, 1944, she married Gordon F. Fyfe, who died in 1965.

Her interests included crossword puzzles, bowling and traveling.

She is survived by her son, Gregory C. Fyfe, and his wife, Marilyn L. Fyfe of York; one sister, Dorothy Kerr of Auburn; three grandchildren, Douglas Fyfe and his wife, Amanda, Suzanne Camire and her husband, David, and Laura Fleming and her husband, Brian, all of Massachusetts; seven great-grandchildren, Lily, Stella and Amelia Fyfe, Tia and Teddy Camire, Miles and Nolan Fleming.

She was predeceased by a son, Gordon F. Fyfe Jr., in 1998; a brother, Earle M. Chesley Jr., in 2004; and a great-granddaughter, Celia Grace Fyfe, in 2003.
