1947 – 2016
FREEPORT — Dolores Fern (Boswell-Sutherland) Pruell, daughter of Burt Boswell and Mildred Louise (Brennan) Boswell, born Nov. 11, 1947, in Monet, Mo., succumbed to brain cancer Wednesday, Nov. 16, peacefully in her own home in Freeport, after being diagnosed only four months earlier.
Dolores will be remembered most for her love and care of her family, especially her children. She was a caregiver her whole life. She owned and operated her own day care for many years in Lisbon Falls. These later years, as she was semi-retired, she worked at Hawthorne House in Freeport caring for the needs of the elderly.
Dolores spent most of her adult life in Maine. She reared her four children in Lisbon Falls as a stay-at-home mom and business owner. Family was first for her.
As of these last seven years, she moved to Freeport to retire. She loved Freeport and she is quoted as saying, “I wish I found it a long time ago.”
She grew up in Kansas City, Mo., with her maternal aunt and uncle. In the early ’60s, she moved to Colorado with her sister, Dixie (Shirley) Gasner. Here she married Willis Dean Sutherland of Greely, Colo. By the early ’70s, she had married Norman Pruell of Brunswick, whom was stationed in Fort Carson, Colo., and they moved to the beautiful state of Maine, where she loved all of its weather.
Dolores loved everything outside. She loved hiking and biking and camping and still camped out in a pup tent with her grandson.
Dolores could grow anything and would spend hours in her gardens.
She loved long, slow mornings reading her books and sipping coffee, or listening to music. She frequented the shops and eateries of Freeport with her dear friend, Annie Rodriguez of Durham. She loved to travel to Cheyenne, Wyo., during Frontier Days and visit with her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews.
Dolores leaves behind her two sisters, Sandy (Marry Louise) and Dixie (Shirley); her three brothers, Donnie, Larry and Jerry; many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews; her daughter, Tani and her husband Jeff, and her three children, son, Ryan Reynolds and his partner, Andrea Foley and their children, Landon and River, daughter, Sara Moses of Nashville, Tenn., and son, Anthony Moses of Warrensburgh, Mo.; her daughter, Sabrina Lyn (Sutherland-Pomelow) Packard and her husband, Bruce K. Packard, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and their three children, son, John Pomelow and his wife, Cate Pomelow, of Fort Bragg, N.C., and their three children, Aliyah, Norah and Roman, son, Jacob Pomelow of Bangor, and his son, Silas, daughter, Jessikah (Pomelow) Perocchi and her husband, Tyler Perocchi, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and their five children, Sophia, Amos, Nolan, Ellianna and Aurora; and her daughter, Wendi Deanne (Sutherland) Gilbert and her husband, Chip (Winston) Gilbert, and their six children, daughter, Meagan (Gilbert) Thibodeau and her husband, Jay Thibodeau, of Turner and their three children, Devon, Nevaeh and Kaylee, daughter, Nicole Gilbert of Turner and her son, Able, daughter, Christeen Wixon and her fiancé, Rian Nilsson, of Lewiston and their two children, Kaylynn and Harper, Erin Gilbert, Allison Gilbert and Brendon Gilbert, and her son, JP (Norm) Pruell of Augusta, and Andrew.
Dolores is predeceased by her two brothers, Bill and Bobby.
All of our family wants to offer our greatest thanks to the staff at Marshwood Center, Interim Health care, Home Instead Corp., Beacon Hospice and many other medical staff who have cared for and made it possible for mom to be at home in her last days. This couldn’t have happened without you.
