NEW SHARON — A Wilton man was seriously injured Thursday when his car went off Route 27 on Thursday afternoon and struck a tree, according to a news release from Franklin County Sheriff’s Sgt.  Matthew Brann.

Kevin Casey, 48, reportedly suffered severe lacerations to his face and head, and was partially ejected from his car, the investigator said.

Casey was transported to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington by NorthStar ambulance. His condition was not immediately available.

According to Brann, Casey was apparently driving south on the highway, also known as Mile Hill Road, when his car veered to the right for an unknown reason and struck a large tree, knocking it down and taking out power lines. He was not wearing his seat belt.

Assisting at the scene were New Sharon Fire Department, Rome Fire Department and Farmington Fire Department.

The crash is under investigation, Brann said.
