NAPLES — Court records show a slaying suspect fatally shot in a shootout with sheriff’s deputies during the weekend had previously been convicted of domestic assault and sexual assault, among other charges.

Authorities say Richard Diekema was found dead inside his mobile home when deputies confronted suspected shooter Norman Strobel, who was also living in the home. Deputies killed Strobel on Sunday after an exchange of gunfire.

Authorities say Strobel had gone to his ex-girlfriend’s Casco home a day earlier and shot her daughter’s boyfriend, leaving him critically hurt.

Court records and interviews indicate Strobel repeatedly violated a court order to stop contacting and abusing his ex-girlfriend in the months before the shootings.

The Portland Press Herald reports he was released from jail on Nov. 19.
