1930 – 2016

CARMEL, N.Y. — Aline R. Cosgrove, 86, of Lewiston passed away after a short illness Monday, Nov. 28, in Carmel, N.Y., while visiting family.

Aline was born in Lewiston on March 26, 1930, to Henry and Aline Bussiere. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1948. She was employed by Benner’s Clothing Store until her marriage to Charles L. Cosgrove Jr. on June 23, 1951. They moved to Freedom and returned to Lewiston in 1966. They enjoyed almost 53 years of marriage, raised five children and in retirement, vacationed in Florida until Charlie’s death in 2005.

She lived independently in Lewiston, had the company of her mother, Memere, until 2010, and Jillien Johnson, their caregiver and trusted friend. Aline was a devoted parishioner at St. Joseph’s Church. She was an avid volunteer and held leadership positions in many organizations including Lewiston High School parent clubs for band and sports, Queen’s Guild, St. Mary’s Hospital Gift Shop and annual Holiday Fair, and Rainbow Federal Credit Union where she served for 27 years retiring in 2008. She enjoyed crafts, bright scarves, diamond rings, collecting Beanie Babies, the latest technology, and especially, friends old and new. She was a master knitter, baker and reader.

A lifelong learner, she took great pride in celebrating her children’s degrees from The College of New Rochelle, Georgetown, MIT, Bowdoin, University of Maine, Queens CUNY, Purdue, Harvard and Penn State. Baked beans, hot dogs, Burger King and lobster were her favorite meals along with a cup of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee, medium with skim milk. Devoted to her family, Grammie spent weeks every summer entertaining at the “beach” and traveling to New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, Virginia and Iowa to spend holidays and celebrations with her children and their families.

She is survived by two daughters, three sons and their spouses: Patricia and husband, Robert Serafin, of Carmel, N.Y., Charles Cosgrove and wife, Colette, of Great Falls, Va., Thomas Cosgrove and wife, Paula, of Langhorne, Pa., Dr. Sarah and husband, Dr. Russell Larsen, of Iowa City, Iowa, and Stephen Cosgrove and wife, Dr. Gina Cosgrove, of Clifton Park, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren, Robert Serafin Jr. and fiancée , Clara Alonso, Katherine Serafin and spouse, Rob Hatfield, Allison and Julia Serafin; Riley and Griffin Cosgrove; Susan Cosgrove and spouse, Zach Zimmerman, Kelley, Kimberly, and Sarah Cosgrove; Elizabeth and Peter Larsen; and Matthew, Andrew and Kaitlyn Cosgrove; an aunt, Pauline Bussiere; nieces, Helen Fox O’Brien and spouse, Dana, Kathleen Cosgrove Shea; and nephew, James Cosgrove and spouse, Colleen; and many cousins, grandnieces and grandnephews.
