1941 – 2016

AUBURN — James E. Alberi Sr., 75, of Norway died peacefully at Hospice House on Friday, Dec. 2, with his family by his side.

He was born in Lewiston on March 7, 1941, to Waino and Bertha Alberi. He lived all of his life on the 100 acre family homestead in Norway.

Jim met the love of his life, Marguerite, in a bean patch in Waterford when they were both just 12 years old. He graduated from Norway High School in 1959 and the two were married the same year. Jim proudly served our country as a member of the U.S. Army for four years and was stationed at Loring Air Force Base and Topsham Naval Base. He began and ended his 30 year career with the U.S. Postal Service in Norway. Jim and his wife celebrated his retirement with their first of two road trips to Alaska.

An avid outdoorsman, Jim was a founding member of the Norway-Paris Fish and Game Club and served as the clubs first president in 1970. Over the next 36 years, he served five more terms as president. He also taught hunter safety classes and organized fishing derbies and chicken shoots.

Family and dear friends hold 37 years of memories from the annual fishing trips and stays at the family camp in Wilson’s Mills.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Marguerite; his brother, Alan and his wife, Sandy; brother-in-law, Philip Chaplin; son, Jamie and wife, Susan; daughter, Patti and her husband, Matthew Wyatt; daughter, Pam and husband, Rick McAvoy; and his grandsons, Sean Alberi and wife, Brittany, Chris Alberi, Rafferty Wyatt, Noah McAvoy and Chancellor Wyatt; his two aunts, Mabel Raftery and Maude Ring; and many close cousins, nieces and nephews.
