WATERVILLE — A group of students from Portland’s Baxter Academy for Technology and Science won the Thomas Cup, Thomas College’s IT and gaming competition, which was held Dec. 2 and 3.
The winners were Julian Bernard of Portland; Walter Backman, Raymond; Antonio Custodio, Buxton; and Caleb Marston and John Zarate, South Portland.
Students demonstrated aptitude in problem solving, robotics and computer programming. Competitions included League of Legends competition, crime scene investigation, cyber war, robot war and an art component.
Thomas College will present the team with a trophy at an assembly at Baxter in January.
Nearly 200 high school and home-school students comprised of 41 teams from throughout the state attended the competition. Over 40 Thomas College students helped to put on the competition.
