1934 – 2016

WILTON — George W. Fitch Sr., 82, a resident of Wilton, passed away Sunday, Dec. 11, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born July 14, 1934, in Ipswich, Mass., the son of Erwin Fitch and Nettie (Bean) Fitch. George attended school in Wilton. On Dec. 29, 1951, in Wilton, he married Eleanor Welch. This year they would have celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Throughout the years he worked as a woodsman. He enjoyed camping, fishing and four-wheeling. He was also known as a rock hound, collecting numerous rocks through the years.

He was a loving and devoted family man who took great pride in caring for his family. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor Fitch of Wilton; sons, Bryan Fitch and his wife, Crystal, of Freeman Township, Bill Fitch and his wife, Mavis, of Jay, Roger Fitch and his wife, Rattana, of Greenbrier, Tenn., Paul Fitch and his wife, Billie Jean, of Dixfield, George Fitch Jr. and his wife, Bonnie, of Farmington, and Timothy Fitch and his wife, Carla, of Wilton; his daughters, Joyce Smiley and her husband, Richard, of Chesterville and Natalie Daniels and her husband, Michael, of Wilton; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Maxine Baston of Lewiston.

He was predeceased by his parents; two sons, Gary and Randall Fitch; brothers, Erwin, Donald and Kenneth Fitch; and his sister, Kathleen Slater.
