DEAR SUN SPOTS: Last year I wrote to you and got a response within a week. I thank you for your good work. Again I have all the past issues of several magazines: Family Circle, Woman’s Day, Good Housekeeping, Reader’s Digest (large print) and others. They are too good to throw away. I thought that a nursing home or other facility might by interested. I can be reached at 207-998-4727. Thank you. — No name, Poland.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there anyone who can help two elderly people who don’t have the money for a new furnace and right now have only two electric heaters to stay warm with? We have called Opportunity Alliance in Portland and Community Concepts and CHIP and they tell me that because I live with the gentleman who owns the mobile home, my income has to be added. When added in he is not able to get any help. I have nowhere to go in order for him to get the help and no one seems to want to help in any way. Most of the heating repair services charge anywhere from $88 to $100 an hour just to come to tell you what is wrong and that doesn’t include the repairs. The park manager said that thick black smoke had come from the chimney and that it could explode which indicates a new furnace is needed. Neither of us can find anyone who would do a payment plan to do so. — No name, no town.

ANSWER: Please be safe, if you need a warm place to go, dial 2-1-1. They can locate a warming shelter near you. For answers about social services in your area you can also dial 2-1-1 or email [email protected] for more information.

It’s really important for you to find out what is wrong with the furnace in order to get help. You may have more options once you have a diagnosis and a quote for repairs. Find out if the park manager or any neighbors have recommendations for furnace repair services.

If any readers know of a mobile home furnace repair provider with flexible payment options, please write in to Sun Spots.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We are hoping you can help us find women who like to sing. We would like to start a women’s singing circle at the Center for Wisdom’s Women. It would be similar to a group called “Women with Wings” in Bangor. They have been singing together weekly for many years.

Our hope would be to start early in the new year and meet weekly in the evening. Interested women should contact us at 207-513-3922. When we have enough people we will poll the group to set a date/time to start. You do not need to read music to participate as the songs are simple, repetitive chants that are easily learned. Song is a universal language of the soul, all women will be welcomed. Thank you for spreading the word. — Klara Tammany, Center for Wisdom’s Women.
