1924 – 2016

LEWISTON — Marcel Larrivee, 92, passed away Friday, Dec. 16, in his Lewiston home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born Dec. 13, 1924, in Canada, the son of Oscar and Exina Larrivee. He attended local schools and was in the European theater in World War II. Upon returning home he married C. Jackie Guerrette in 1946. In 1950 he opened his first barber shop and did haircuts for 25 cents. In 1963 he opened his new shop on Mill Street, which is still there today.

As he got older he played sports like hockey, tennis and skiing, but Marcel’s passion in life was playing music and spending time with family and friends. He and friends started a bluegrass band called “Mountain Dews” and they played many venues, including the Franco Festival and at nursing homes. He was a good friend, a loving husband and a wonderful father.

Marcel will be greatly missed by his loving and devoted wife, Jackie; son, Ronald Larrivee of Lewiston; daughter, Charlene Diamond of Turner. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Josh Colby of Turner, Niomi Larrivee of New Auburn, Faye Thibeault of Auburn, Erick Colby of Lewiston, and Crystal Hiscock of Auburn; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Larrivee; his two sisters, Aline Labonty and Rolande Stuart; and son, Wayne Larrivee.
