1928 – 2016

RUMFORD — Daisy S. Patterson, 88, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening Dec. 21, at the Rumford Community Home, with her family by her side.

She was born Daisy Elizabeth Shreve on May 30, 1928, in St. Augustine, Fla., the daughter of Edwin and Katherine (Maise) Shreve. She graduated from Ketterlinus High School in 1946 and soon after traveled to Rumford, where she met and married Basil W. Patterson on June 22, 1947.

Daisy and Basil made their home in Rumford and lived for a time at Worthley Pond in East Peru. In later years, she lived in Mexico, near her son Allan, before moving to the Rumford Community Home where she lived several more years.

Daisy worked for more than 30 years at the Rumford Community Hospital in a variety of roles in the business and admitting offices. She was active for many years in the Virgin Memorial Chapel of the Rumford United Methodist Church on Linnell Street in Rumford, hospital credit union and the hospital bowling teams. She could be found volunteering at the hospital fairs and office outings to Reid State Park. Daisy loved the ocean and they vacationed many years at Bailey Island and made frequent day trips to Old Orchard Beach. In later years Daisy and Basil wintered in her hometown of St. Augustine, Fla.

Daisy had a gentle, sweet nature with a humorous side and was loved dearly by her family and friends, including the loving, caring staff at the Rumford Community Home and Beacon House Hospice.

Survivors include a brother, Francis Shreve and his wife, Vilma, of Chesnee, S.C.; sons, James F. Patterson and wife, Minghui, of Charlotte, N.C., Allan J. Patterson and wife, Ginger, of Mexico; daughters, Janet P. Gilbert and husband, Charles, of Boyertown, Pa., Cynthia Lagomarsino of Portland, and Rania P. Gagne of West Peru; eight grandchildren, Tom, Danny, Alyssa, Christa, Nicholas, Rachel, Craig and Jennie; 10 great-grandchildren, Ella, Gabriel, Justin, Xavier, Drake, Gavin, Emma, Harper, Molly and Audrey.

She was predeceased by her husband, Basil W., in 2001; and siblings William, Charles, Bertha, Pearl and James.
