Way back, Gov. Paul LePage was talking about the drug problem that exists in Maine and suggested bringing back the guillotine to punish convicted drug dealers.
Although I believe that would be a deterrent, it will not happen.
Now, state officials are getting nowhere on the problem with heroin and other opioids, and that problem is killing people. In my opinion, that makes drug dealers murderers.
I know Maine doesn’t have the death penalty for murder, but that can be changed and should be. Life in prison is a waste of money. With the technology available nowadays, experts can prove someone guilty or innocent. There is no need for someone to be on death row for 15-20 years.
I think it is time for Mainers to think seriously about the death penalty for certain crimes.
