FARMINGTON — Members of the Greater Franklin Development Corp. thanked investors who supported them for the past year at the investors’ reception on Dec. 7.

The Greater Franklin Development Corp. used the investors’ reception to recognize three organizations with which it has been involved.

Yellow Light Breen, president and CEO for the Maine Development Foundation, presented his remarks, which centered around economic opportunities for the state. 

Polycor of New England received the Business Attraction Award, which recognizes a new company in the Franklin County area.

Polycor has invested $5 million in the North Jay quarry site, including an 11,000-square-foot curbing facility. There are currently 12 people employed on the site, six in the plant and six in the quarry.

Polycor was granted a Community Development Block Grant in the amount of $100,000 for the training of the quarry workers.

Stratton Lumber Inc. received the Business Retention Award, recognizing an existing employer who continues to make capital investments and create jobs in the area. In just the past couple of years, Stratton Lumber has invested $3 million in new and upgraded equipment in the saw and planer mills and the yard.

Fourteen jobs were added this fall for a total of 66 employees. Currently, another $2.5 million is being invested in a new boiler and continuous kiln projects.

Pete Roberts received the Entrepreneur Award, which recognizes a local entrepreneur who has dared to be bold, take risks and strive to be an employer of choice.

Roberts worked long days, endured sleepless nights and built a factory in Industry to bring back manufacturing into the area.

OriginUSA, Roberts’ company, has seen 100 percent growth during the past year.
