AUBURN — Auburn Public Library has announced its January programming. Activities will take place at the library at 49 Spring St.
Homework Help for Teens: 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 5, 12, 19 and 26, in the Teen Space. Teens in grades seven through 12 can stop by and get homework help, as well as learn time management, schedule planning and goal setting. A healthy snack will be provided.
Teen Anime Club: 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 5, in Androscoggin Community Room. Teens ages 12 to 18 can drop in to talk about their favorite (or least favorite) manga, watch this week’s selection of anime and try their hand at drawing their own characters. Snacks will be provided.
Teens! Friday Movie: 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Teens can celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday by choosing to watch either “The Help” (PG-13) or “Driving Miss Daisy” (PG). This program is just for teens ages 12 to 18 and will include a snack.
Teens! Snack Chat!: 3 to 4 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 9 and 23, in the Teen Space. Teens ages 12 to 18 can drop in and engage in conversation about current events.
Tweens in the Teen Space: noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, in the Teen Space. Tweens in sixth grade are invited to come to the Teen Space on the second floor on half-day Wednesdays. There will be crafts and board games. They can stop by to hang out or get a head start on the homework.
Gaming Hour: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, Jan. 11 and 27, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Teens ages 12 to 18 can stop by for video games and snacks. The library has Microsoft XBox and Nintendo Wii. Only games rated Teen and younger will be allowed.
Safe Voices Drop-In Visit: 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, in the Teen Space. Teens ages 12 to 18 can visit with Kelly from Safe Voices to discuss relationships and work on projects.
Teen Life Skills 2017: Safety for Teens: 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, in the Teen Space. This month’s installment of the 2017 Teen Life Skills series will discuss safety at home and in the community. Teens ages 12 to 18 can come meet with members of the Auburn Police Department to discuss best safety practices. There will be a presentation, followed by time for questions.
Maine Job Corps info session: 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, in the conference room. Hanya Phillips of the Maine Job Corps will visit and discuss how the program works and who is eligible. Preregistration is required by calling 207-450-0216.
Teens! DIY Takeover: Mini Zen Gardens: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, in the Teen Space. Teens ages 12 to 18 can de-stress in the middle of mid-term exams by putting together mini zen gardens. Registration is requested so the library has enough supplies by calling or visiting the website.
Teens! Discoveries in STEM: 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, in the Teen Space. Maisy Cyr of 4H will help teens ages 12 to 18 discover how they really use science, technology and math outside the classroom.
Teen Life Skills 2017: 10 Tips for Teens by Healthy Androscoggin: 4 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 24, Feb. 28 and March 28; 3 to 4 p.m. April 25, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Teens ages 12 to 18 will learn in four classes how to add more fruits and vegetables to their day while learning basic cooking skills. Attendees will make and eat a recipe each class and play games with prizes. Registration is requested by calling or visiting the library’s website.
DIY Teens! Media Club: 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25, in the CREATE! Media Lab. Teens ages 12 to 18 can create movies, music and graphic designs. This month teens will work with the green screen.
SAPARS: 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, in the Teen Space. Hannah from Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Services will visit. She is available to discuss and create awareness of teen issues such as healthy relationships, sexual assault, bullying, harassment, substance use/abuse and internet safety.
