SOUTH PARIS — Alyre R. Violette, 89, of South Paris and formerly of Lewiston, died Monday, Dec. 26, at the Maine Veterans’ Home in South Paris.

He was born Jan. 31, 1927, in Saint Léonard, New Brunswick, a son of Maxime B. and Emma (Rioux) Violette and was educated there. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On July 31, 1948, he married Juliette Gervais at St. Margaret’s Church in Old Orchard Beach.

He had been employed at Pepperell Manufacturing Co. as a security guard and also by the city of Biddeford as a member of their special police. After retirement, they had lived in Winter Haven, Fla., for 15 years, returning to Maine in 2007.

He enjoyed bowling as a young man and playing shuffleboard while in Florida.

Preceding him in death was his wife of 59 years, Juliette Violette, Aug. 6, 2007; and his grandson, Timothy Withers in 2014; and eight siblings.

Surviving are one son, Roger J. Violette and his wife, Lucille, of Auburn; four daughters, Yvette Mercier and her husband, Richard, of Lewiston, Carol Ann Violette of Auburn, Patricia Dube and her husband, Peter, of Greene and Barbara Violette and her husband, Jason Hall, of Lewiston; one sister, Alphena Babineau and her husband, Arthur, of Brewer; one brother, Fernand Violette and his wife, Virginia, of Pine Point; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
