POWNAL – A 65-year-old man died in an early morning fire investigators say may have been weather related.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office said Barry Cain, who lived alone on Elmwood Lane, may have been trying to heat his home after the power went out overnight.
Police said fire was reported around 1 a.m. on Friday. Cain’s body was found just before dawn in an apartment above the garage.
The exact cause of the fire remained unknown, although investigators said Cain was known to use alternative heating sources to keep warm.
Heavy snow and high winds caused power outages across a large swath of Pownal. Some of those outages were expected to last for days as power crews scrambled to make repairs.
