LEWISTON — Volunteers are needed in every town in Maine to count the number of homeless families, youths, veterans and senior citizens on the night of Jan. 24.
The annual Point in Time count is conducted every January across the country, giving a better understanding of the factors contributing to homelessness and helping state and local agencies to end homelessness.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will use the count as a benchmark to determine how many homeless and unstably housed youth there are in the U.S. Since they have historically been undercounted, this is a critical year to improve the accuracy of the count in Maine.
New volunteers will be connected with people who are experienced in this process.
