FARMINGTON — Police said a Chelsea man fell asleep while driving on Routes 2 and 4 on Tuesday afternoon and his car hit two others.
Erik Dodge, 21, was charged with failure to retain control of a motor vehicle, Farmington officer Ryan Rosie said.
Dodge was driving east in front of Hight Chevrolet when his 2005 Honda Accord drifted into the oncoming lane and struck an SUV driven by Nancy Hutchinson, 72, of Carthage, and a car behind her driven by Nevada Daigle, 42, of Jay.
Daigle was freed from her 2007 Ford Fusion and taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital for treatment of a shoulder injury, Rosie said.
Hutchinson’s passenger, her sister, Daveen Houghton, 83, of Carthage, was taken to FMH with neck pain, Rosie said. A German shepherd with them was not injured.
Hutchinson said she veered her 2003 Honda Pilot to the right to avoid a head-on crash. Dodge’s car tore the real wheel off her SUV, which she drove into the car dealership.
“It was a miracle,” Hutchinson said. “God was with us.”
Farmington Fire and Rescue and NorthStar Emergency Services assisted Rosie at the scene.
