Presiding bishop to visit Mechanic Falls church

MECHANIC FALLS — The Rev. Brian Marsh, presiding bishop of the Anglican Church in America, will make his first visit to the new Anglican Church of the Transfiguration on Sunday, Jan. 8, at 64 Elm St.

The service begins at 10 a.m. Bishop Marsh will preach and celebrate Holy Communion with the Rev. Gary Drinkwater.

A reception and refreshments will follow the service. All are welcome.

Church member to share mission experience

JAY — There will be a mission presentation at 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 8, at Bean’s Corner Baptist Church, 17 Chesterville Road.

A church member recently joined a team from Church in the City in Rockwall, Texas, on a mission trip in Kenya with Christian Ministries In Africa.

She will be sharing the mission’s work, and also the activities and events she participated in while she was in Kenya.

The event is free and open to the public.

Spiritual symbolism at UMC

AUBURN — United Methodist Church is offering a new winter prayer group, Discovering God in a New Way.

The prayer group will follow the book “Called Into Her Presence: Praying with Feminine Images of God” by Virginia Ann Froehle. 

“God is neither male nor female — any more than God is fire, rock, shepherd, shield, wind, king, light, or any other image we project, ” Froehle says.  

The goal of the prayer group is to enrich participants’ images of God to enhance prayer life.

The group will run for eight weeks on Sundays, Jan. 15 to March 5. Two times will be offered: after service from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., and in the evening from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Sunday Night at the Movies

OXFORD — Hosanna Church will offer Sunday Night at the Movies in January. Movies will begin at 5 p.m. 

The church will show “Decisions” with Franklin Graham on Jan. 15. This is part of the “My Hope” outreach and is a capstone to the 50 State Capitals Tour of 2016.

There will be a Christian children’s movie shown upstairs at the same time.
