WOODSTOCK — A Rumford man received minor injuries Tuesday morning when his van collided head-on with a four-axle logging truck on Route 26, police said.
Shayne White, 50, of Rumford was driving north on Route 26 in Woodstock when his 2006 Dodge Caravan crossed the centerline and struck a loaded logging truck driven by Kyle Dolloff, 30, of Canton, Oxford County Sheriff’s Deputy Derek MacDonald said.
MacDonald said Dolloff attempted to move his 2003 four-axle truck into the breakdown lane to avoid the collision but was unable because of the height and density of the snowbanks.
“White’s car ended up hitting Dolloff’s truck almost head-on,” MacDonald said. “It was kind of a side-swipe collision.”
MacDonald said both drivers complained of pain, but neither suffered major injuries.
White was taken to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway, while Dolloff declined to be taken to the hospital.
White’s vehicle was demolished, MacDonald said.
Regarding the logging truck, MacDonald said, “They needed to get another truck to come in and unload the logs onto another truck.”
The cause of the accident is under investigation, MacDonald said, and is being led by Deputy Matthew McDonnell.
“We’re still waiting to discover whether it was a medical issue or something else,” MacDonald added. “We’re not sure at this point.”
Route 26 was closed for hours while crews cleared the road.
