FRYEBURG — As part of its new farm viability initiative, the Upper Saco Valley Land Trust, working with Community Food Matters in Norway, will host a workshop Saturday, Feb. 4.

The Business of Farming Wholesale will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fryeburg Academy. It will examine wholesale farming from many angles. Jed Beach of FarmSmart will lead the workshop, which will focus on the cost of production and marketing wholesale products. Farmers will have a chance to:

• Use last year’s records to find their most (and least) profitable crops;

• Create and evaluate financial scenarios for the farm business;

• Investigate some of the most beneficial wholesale production, marketing, and distribution techniques; and

• Meet other wholesale farmers and some wholesale buyers in the area.

In addition, each farm will receive follow-up technical assistance tailored to the farm’s growth strategy.

This technical assistance will help farmers transfer what they’ve gleaned from the workshop to their specific farm’s needs.

The cost is $35. Upon completion of the workshop and successful participation in technical assistance, farms will be awarded $500 in seed money to help implement new knowledge.

Registration must be completed by Friday, Jan. 20, at tinyurl.com/jz8kw42.
