Pre-school, kindergarten enrollment

WINTHROP — Winthrop Grade School pre-school and kindergarten registration has been announced.

To be enrolled in preschool, children must be 4 years of age by Oct. 15, 2017. For kindergarten, children must be 5 years of age by the same date.

To register a child for the 2017-18 preschool or kindergarten class, parents and guardians must call the main office to put their child on the list. Screenings will be held in the spring.

VFW Post 9150 to meet

LEWISTON — VFW Post 9151 will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 23, at the Lewiston Memorial Armory. 

Hungarian dinner, illustrated talk

WAYNE — Cary Memorial Library will host an authentic Hungarian dinner and illustrated talk at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road.

Kati Vecsey will prepare a selection of traditional Hungarian appetizers, goulash, a vegetarian option of cherry soup and warm apple strudel for dessert. Hungarian wines will accompany the meal.

Between dinner and dessert, Vecsey will give a brief talk about Hungary and reflect on life in a Communist country. Vecsey was born in Budapest and grew up there. She moved to Maine in 1995 and is a senior lecturer in theater at Bates College.

Only 24 tickets will be sold, so tickets should be purchased as soon as possible. Tickets are $25 each, and proceeds will benefit the Cary Memorial Library.

The snow date will be Sunday, Feb. 12.
