A vehicle crashed Tuesday morning on top of the interchange bridge at Exit 80 on the Maine Turnpike as a mix of snow, freezing rain, and sleet created difficult driving conditions across Maine.

The single-vehicle crash is blocking the left lane southbound, according to the Maine Turnpike authority.

Also, the weather has closed numerous schools and government offices across Maine.

Some snow fell across the region, but the big challenge on the roads Tuesday morning was ice and strong winds with gusts up to 35 mph. Highway speeds were lowered to 45 mph.

About 5,000 power customers reported outages.
