The fine, steady, healthy growth of Lewiston-Auburn is strikingly shown by the increase of receipts at the Lewiston office of the American Express Co. for the year 1916. This Increase was approximately 30 per cent, and it raised the office from the second to the first class. It is the largest increase, undoubtedly, made by any of the company’s offices in Maine, if not in any New England community of this size. There are many things to account for this, a very important one, obviously, being the steady growth of Lewiston-Auburn industries and consequent increase in shipments. The great manufactories here are doing a tremendous business, and exact figures would be mightily interesting and gratifying reading to the Lewiston and Auburn public.
