1943 – 2017

AUBURN — Normand McLaughlin, 73, of Lewiston, peacefully passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, at the Hospice House in Auburn, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Norm was born in Brunswick on Oct. 7, 1943, a son of the late William and Cecile (Lapierre) McLaughlin. Growing up in Brunswick, he attended local schools and graduated from Brunswick High School.

In 1962, Norm proudly enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam conflict. While stationed in Canada, he met and married Mary “Millie” McCarthy at Stephenville Crossing in Newfoundland on Dec. 13, 1965.

After leaving the military, Norm and Millie settled in Lewiston, where they raised their family together. During that time he worked as a retail manager for several companies and at BIW for many years as well. Norm was an avid golfer and bowler, even working for a time at Sparetime Recreation and Holiday Lanes. Norm also enjoyed playing chess, watching comedies and Westerns, and spending quality time with his many dogs throughout the years.

Norm is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Millie McLaughlin of Lewiston; his three children: Ken McLaughlin and his partner, Marge, of Cambridge, Mass., Dave McLaughlin and his wife, Tammy, of Naples, and Bob McLaughlin and his wife, Shannon, of West Gardiner. He also leaves behind a sister, Jeanne Grimes of Connecticut; a brother, Donald McLaughlin of Gardiner; three grandchildren, Brittany, Bailey and Brooke McLaughlin; and a great-granddaughter, Amiyah Espinoza.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Robert and Richard McLaughlin.

The McLaughlin family extends heartfelt thanks to the Androscoggin Hospice House for their compassion and care given to Normand in his final days.
