1939 – 2017
LEWISTON — Lionel A. Baillargeon, 77, a resident of Poland, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, Feb. 3, at Central Maine Medical Center.
He was born in Lewiston on Oct. 3, 1939, the son of Jerome and Eugenie (Gallant) Baillargeon. Lionel was a U.S. Army veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis during the Cold War. In 1962, he married the love of his life, the former Therese Albert. They would have celebrated their 55th anniversary on Sept. 15 of this year.
Lionel was a 16-year overseer of the New Life Stevens Mills Church in Auburn. He loved the Lord Jesus and was a faithful servant whenever needed. Lionel and his wife, Terry, spoke often of their 1985 trip to Israel, which was a such a blessing. Their favorite spot for vacations was the ocean.
In 1964, he joined the Lewiston Fire Department as a firefighter. Later, after completing several courses and seminars, he went on to be Lewiston’s fire inspector. After a few years in that capacity, he was appointed director of the Fire Prevention Bureau, where he served several years until his retirement.
His favorite happy times were spent with his family, sharing meals and playing games with the kids, especially board games. Some called him “Grampy” and others called him “Gram-Pie.” Many laughs and special moments were shared. He also had a special place in his heart for elephants and had quite the collection of figurines.
He was a jack-of-all-trades and loved home projects. He also had a God-given talent for art. So many people have souvenirs of his excellent work.
Survivors include his wife, Therese; a daughter, Susan Andrews of Lisbon; two sons, Marc and his wife, Rhonda, of Minot, and Norman of Turner; two granddaughters, Ashlee and husband, Alex, and Megan; two great-grandchildren, Cam’ron and Aria; three brothers, Andre, Emery and his wife, Betty, and Nelson and his wife, Karen; as well as nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, Gerard; one sister, Bernadette; and an infant.
