MEXICO — Matthew J. Welch, 27, of Roxbury Road, Mexico, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Feb. 7, at his residence.

He was born in Lewiston, a son of Susan M. Trenoweth and John A. Welch Jr.

Matt was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Mountain Valley High School, Class of 2008.

He loved working with wood and was a self-employed carpenter.

Matt had a love of landscaping and had been employed with Piper Landscaping and Michael Mills Landscaping.

Matt attained his Class A driver’s license through Region 9 and he loved operating heavy equipment.

He had a big heart and loved spending time with his nieces and nephews and little kids and making them laugh.

Surviving are his parents, John A. Jr. and Susan Welch of Mexico; a daughter, Ryleigh N. Davis of Carthage; two brothers, Eric J. Welch and companion, Tara Amburg, of Mexico, and John M. Welch of Mexico; a sister, Rhonda S. Welch of Rumford; maternal grandmother, Laura Mae Trenoweth of Rumford; paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Welch of Mexico; uncles, James Trenoweth Jr. of Rumford, Randal Trenoweth and wife, Lisa, of Rumford, and Steven Trenoweth of Rumford; aunts, Joan McDonald and husband, John, of Mexico and Bonnie Gould and husband, Kevin, of Rumford; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Haley; maternal grandfather, James H. Trenoweth; and paternal grandfather, John A. Welch Sr.
