I am a proud resident of Auburn. I grew up in this great city. My family has lived here for generations. I have worked and raised children here.
It is with great sadness that I watch a small group of businessmen from the local Chamber of Commerce doing everything they can to do away with my city.
Who is pushing this crazy idea of merging Lewiston and Auburn? I literally do not know of anyone in my circle of friends, family, neighbors and coworkers who think it is a good idea to end Auburn as we know it by merging it with Lewiston.
The merger plan is being dumped on residents by a very small group that seems to have some strange agenda that is shared by very few. I do not see any great benefits in having Auburn overtaken by the larger city across the river.
I strongly urge all residents of Auburn to vote “no” against the merger of Auburn and Lewiston.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
