In a time when many people are feeling worried about the future of the nation’s democracy and the planet, there is strength in unity. Resistance groups are forming in communities everywhere, some in the Lewiston-Auburn area.
People can take a proactive approach and unite with their neighbors and resist. It isn’t difficult to do. People can attend meetings; participate in rallies and demonstrations; let local, state and national representatives know about their concerns. Elected officials must listen.
Only by working together will the public keep democracy from being stolen by the Trump administration.
The Trump administration must not be allowed to silence the press, dismantle the EPA, steal the public’s 1st Amendment rights, take away the ACA (Obamacare) without a better plan (single payer Medicare for all), remodel Social Security, destroy public education, privatize the Veterans Administration or reduce the tax rates on the rich while adding a burden on the rest of U.S. society.
There is strength in numbers. People must unite and resist.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
