FARMINGTON — The Farmington Horsemen held its annual banquet Feb. 4 at University of Maine at Farmington with about 70 members attending.

The banquet included social time, supper, a meeting, awards and an auction. 

Mike Cushing led the meeting, sharing track stories throughout the night.

Special guests were Katie Damon of the promotional board, Diane Perkins of Maine Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association, and Don Marean, a representative from Augusta. 

Club member Bob Cushing gave a report on the track, expenses, replacing track equipment and revenue from donations and an auction.

This year’s award winners are:

•  Tom White, Aspiration Award for his contributions to horsemen and the track;

• Shoog, owned by John Korhonen, the late Neal Tranten and Mike Cushing, best 2-year-old;

• Mercenary, owned by Jeff Nelson and Michelle Nelson, best 3-year-old;

• Mister Anson, owned by Darrell and Jessica Tibbetts, most wins with seven;

• Roadshow Vic, owned by Mike Cushing and the late Neal Tranten, fastest trotter with a time of 1:55.1;

• Bet You, owned by T.R. and Scott Dillon, fastest pacer with a time of 1:50.4; and

• Zoe Blue Chip, owned by Charlene Cushing, Pam Smith and Jayne Dipompo, most money earned at $52,000. 

Club member Gloria Cushing presented scholarships to Sarah Neal and Hanna Hilton.

The Farmington Horsemen raise the scholarship money at 50/50 raffles at the races during Farmington Fair and by donations.

The winner of the 50/50 donated it back to Farmington Horsemen.
