TURNER — Norris Robert Hamel, 60, of Turner, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 17, at his home in Turner.

He was born June 24, 1956, in Lewiston, a son of Robert and Joyce (Stevens) Hamel. He graduated from Leavitt Area High School in 1974.

On Oct. 1, 1977, he married the love of his life, Penny Walker of Farmington.

He worked on the family farm all of his life and enjoyed being in the outdoors and working in the fields.

He loved working on cars and trucks, buying golf carts to fix up, tinkering on his purple 1969 Pontiac LeMans, and driving his 1964 red and white Chevy pickup. He also loved collecting and repairing old Tonka toys to put on his shelf. He enjoyed animals and was especially fond of his cats. Another particular interest was watching old Westerns on TV, especially John Wayne movies.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 40 years, Penny; his mother, Joyce; his sister, Diane Smith and her husband, Ted; two nieces, Rainy Brewer and her husband, Dennis, and Faith Picard; four great-nephews and a great-niece; his mother-in-law, Jean Walker; sisters-in-law, Cindy and Carla Walker and Cheryl Bunker and her husband, Steve.

He was predeceased by his father, Robert, in 2012; father-in-law, Reginald Walker, in 2004; and very good friend, Bob McMurrough.
