Wilson Lake Ice Out contest
WILTON — Wilton Fish & Game Association is sponsoring the Wilson Lake Ice-Out contest.
The ice is considered out on Wilson Lake when a boat can go from the boat launch to the big island without touching ice.
Residents can buy tickets for $5 each. The winner will receive $100.
Deadline for submissions is April 1. Tickets must be received 48 hours prior to the ice being out. Proceeds will benefit the association.
Entry forms may be picked up from Bruce Dyke, Steve’s Market, Law Mountain Bakery or Robin’s Bait Shop. Entries may also be mailed to Bruce Dyke, P.O. BOX 605, Wilton, ME 04294. Mailed entries should include a name, contact number, payment and predicted month, day, hour and minute that the ice will be out.
McLaughlin Garden hosting lecture
PARIS — Sue McIntire of Longfellow’s Greenhouses will give a lecture at the McLaughlin Garden and Homestead on March 1. Her topic is “New Perennials for Maine Gardens” and there will be many photographs of perennials suited to the area.
McIntire, who has worked at Longfellow’s for 17 years, has professional licenses as a Maine Certified Sustainable Landscaper and a Maine Certified Nurseryman.
The lecture series runs Wednesdays through March 29 upstairs in Barnard McLaughlin’s historic home, 97 Main St. Tea begins at 3:30, with the program at 4 p.m. The cost to attend is by donation.
Open Observatory Night March 1
PARIS — Twitchell Observatory will hold an Open Observatory Night at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 1.
Participants will have the opportunity to see Venus, Mars, three comets and a crescent moon.
If the skies are not clear, the event will be Friday, March 3, or Saturday, March 4. Exact postponements will be available on the observatory’s website.

‘Organizational Zen’ talk postponed
CARRABASSETT VALLEY — Carrabassett Valley Public Library will host “Organizational Zen” from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 1.
The talk was postponed from Feb. 15 because of the weather.

Lithuanian Heritage Club to meet
RUMFORD — The Lithuanian Heritage Club will meet at noon Wednesday, March 1, at Sam’s Italian Shop on Route 2.
The club will discuss plans for its trip to Lithuania in October.
Those interested in the group outing should attend the meeting for more details.
Bethel Seniors to meet
BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will meet at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, at the Sudbury Inn for a meeting and dinner.
Reservations and meal preference must be made before Wednesday, March 1. The menu is baked haddock or stuffed chicken. The meal is $10.

Androscoggin Pomona Grange to meet
POLAND — Androscoggin Pomona Grange will meet Wednesday, March 1, at Excelsior Grange on Harris Hill Road.
There will be a 6:30 p.m. potluck supper and 7:30 p.m. meeting. Resident farmer Bill Hatch of the Pomona Agriculture Committee will lead the program.
There will be a 50/50 raffle and attendance drawing. All are welcome.
