RUMFORD — Robert E. “Bob” Cartwright of Rumford passed away Friday, Feb. 17, at his home, with his loving family by his side.

Bob was born in Hamilton, Ohio, on Aug. 18, 1925, the son of Edward O. Cartwright and Rose M. Crawford. Bob proudly served two and a half years in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was assigned to the European Theater in the Engineers Combat Battalion.

In 1948, he married Marjorie M. DesRoches and they raised four children together. Bob and Marge had a loving relationship until Marge passed away in 1997.

Bob had a great sense of humor, a tremendous work ethic and enjoyed visiting his children in Virginia, Tennessee, Arizona and Standish.

His favorite place in the world was his fishing camp that he built on the Mirimichi River in New Brunswick, Canada. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family and friends at the camp.

Bob worked more than 40 years at the Rumford Paper Mill in the roll finishing department and steam plant.

Bob leaves behind his son, Ric and wife, Deb; daughter, Sheila; daughter, Gail and husband, Glen; son, Bob and wife, Diane; and special friend, Rose Sanders. Bob has eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, wife and a granddaughter, Renee.
