Where is U.S. Rep. Bruce Poliquin? Good luck finding him this week. Although Congress is on a break so that representatives can meet with their constituents, Poliquin is nowhere to be seen. He has refused to hold town hall meetings with Mainers or even to release his schedule. His staff claims “security concerns.” Is he afraid of us?
Poliquin is upfront about destroying Obamacare. He claims it is too expensive. Well, for the wealthy, such as Poliquin, perhaps it is. Abolishing Obamacare puts $33,000 into the pockets of the wealthiest one percent. According to an article in Forbes magazine in December, for those people earning between $10,000 to $75,000, killing Obamacare increases their tax bill. Without the ACA, almost 30,000 people in the 2nd District would be without health care coverage.
Apart from working to abolish health care, Poliquin also voted to allow the shooting of wolves denned up with cubs and killing bears and wolves by plane in Alaska. I hated having to wait to shoot wolves until they had left their cubs. Who has the time for that?
Poliquin is not really in touch with his base. Now, if we could only find the guy …

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
