ANDOVER — Paul Nevel, 90, of Andover passed away at the Hospice House in Auburn on Saturday, Feb. 11.
He was born on March 23, 1926, in Chesterville, to Susan Farrington and Wallace “Dick” Nevel. Paul served in World War II and went on “Honor Flight” last October. He was a Maine Guide and an avid sportsman. He owned and operated Nahmakanta Lake Wilderness Camps in Millinocket with his wife of 57 years and children, as he said, he lived like an Indian in the woods. Paul loved hunting and fishing and trapped with his team of huskies. He loved gardening and reading and could identify every bird call.
He leaves behind four children, Bruce and Pamela Gilbert Nevel of Arizona, Barry and Robin Nevel of Bethel, Kerry and Rowena Nevel of Florida, and favorite daughter, Lana of Andover; five grandchildren, Jen, Jill, Jasmine, Ryan and Kwailan; eight great-grandchildren, Isaac, Aaron, Collin, Carter, Jordan, Grayson, Chloe Marie and Camden.
Paul was predeceased by his wife, Frances; and daughter, Tanya Lee.
The snow moon rising on this cold, cold night. A total lunar eclipse is now in plain sight. The new year comet races through the sky of course this was the night dad said good-bye.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
