FARMINGTON — A local man pleaded not guilty Tuesday to intentionally setting fire to a Jay man’s truck on Keep Road last year.
Michael A. Davis, 21, of Farmington was indicted in January on two counts of Class A arson. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Jay Fire Chief Michael Booker previously said the truck was destroyed. The incident occurred on Feb. 4, 2016.
Assistant District Attorney Joshua Robbins requested the court set Davis’ bail at $10,000 cash, acknowledging it is moot because Davis is serving sentences on underlying charges.
Davis was sentenced in December 2016 to serve 15 months of a six-year sentence for burglary that occurred on Feb. 3, 2016, according to court documents. When he is released, he will be on probation for three years. At the same time, he is serving a second sentence of six years in prison with all but 15 months suspended for burglary that occurred on Aug. 10, 2015.
Davis is also serving several six-month sentences concurrently with the burglary sentence for convictions on habitual offender, three counts of theft and violation of condition of release. The crimes were committed in 2015 and 2016, according to court documents.
Davis told Judge Nancy Carlson on Tuesday that he expects to be out of jail on Nov. 8.
Carlson set bail on the arson charges at $10,000 cash. That means if he has served the current sentences and the arson case is not settled, Davis would have to put up $10,000 cash bail to be released from jail.
Davis is prohibited from having direct or indirect contact with the victim in the case.
A conviction on a Class A crime is punishable by up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
