SABATTUS — James Kenneth Hilb, 58, of Sabattus, passed away in his home Tuesday, Feb. 21, after a long battle with cancer.
Jim was born in Plainfield, N.J., on Aug. 17, 1958, where he attended high school. He then received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Southern Maine and started his long career of 29 years at Bath Iron Works.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 34 years, Susan Foster Hilb. They loved going camping in their motor home with their grandchildren, and boating in his self-refurbished canoe together.
He is also survived by his three daughters, Michaela Hilb, Shannon Taylor and husband, Jeremy Taylor, and Jamie Hilb; two granddaughters, Addison Taylor and Sierra Pennel; his brother, Robert Hilb and wife, Barbara; and two sisters; Katherine Meltzer and husband, Neal, and Marjorie Swick and husband, Stephen; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by his father, Theodore Robert Hilb; and his mother, Marjorie Hayes Hilb.
The family wishes to thank Bath Iron Works for their constant support during their struggle.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
