LEWISTON — Museum L-A received a boost in its vision of developing its future site situated next to the Simard-Payne Memorial Park.

A donation toward the future of Museum L-A along with a pledge to follow with another was made by Dolard and Priscilla Gendron.

When asked why they were showing such great generosity to the museum, Dolard Gendron responded, “We believe this Museum is of huge importance for the future of our community. The Lewiston-Auburn communities have been good to us, and we feel it is important for us to give back to it. Hopefully, by doing so, we can inspire and encourage others to do the same.

“My father always told me that if we were fortunate enough to have it, it should be shared by giving back — and we try to follow his advice,” Gendron said.

The museum is at 35 Canal St. in the Bates Mill Complex on the bank of the Androscoggin River, adjacent to the pedestrian trestle bridge that crosses to Auburn. Having the museum close to both communities was of key importance, since it is telling the histories of work and community of both cities.

It is open Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and by appointment.
