FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Soil & Water Conservation District is hosting a class on pond construction, renovation and maintenance on April 4, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Farmington Municipal Building.
Contractor recertification credits are available to those attending the full session. Those who are not seeking credits will be dismissed at break time.
Each participant will leave with a copy of the handbook, “Ponds: Planning, Design, Construction.” The new DEP pocket field guide will be available upon request.
Candi Gilpatric of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service will discuss pond siting, construction and maintenance.
Bobby Van Riper, Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife biologist, will discuss the importance of oxygen levels and temperature for fish health. DEP regulations will be covered after the break.
Preregistration is required. Fees are as follows:
• $50 for recertification credit class, including the new erosion control field guide; and
• $25 for individuals without credits (half session)
A 48-hour notice of cancellation is required to get a 50 percent refund.
