Charles D. Hasty of Auburn shipped this week to Aroostook county, three express loads of magnificent draft horses. One of these loads went on Wednesday to Presque Isle; another on Thursday to Fort Fairfield. While all were splendid animals, this latter load was declared by good judges to be the best over seen in these parts, and worth going a long way to see. This is the finest load of horses ever shipped into Aroostook county. They weigh 1800 to 2000 pounds each.

Members of Jacques Cartier will gather at the chalet on Route 132 in Sabattus Saturday for an old-fashioned box social. The ladles attending will take a decorated box containing supper for two. The men present will bid on the boxes and share the meal with the one who brought it. A prize will be awarded for the prettiest box.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
