If LD 90 passes, it would be another law against Maine businesses. The law would affect all future contracts for commercial water extraction resale within the state of Maine.

The town of Rumford would benefit from a contract with Poland Spring. The thousands of dollars from that company could fund future water line projects. The town will have to replace many of its 150-year-old cast iron lines now and in the future.

The Water District has three trustees on the board. The job of those trustees is to make good choices for the district and the town. I know two of the trustees. One is a civil engineer and the other man has represented the town for years. Those men have the knowledge to make the right decision on a water contract between the two parties involved.

One very important provision in a water contract would be an automatic check on the level of water, so as to not pump the level too low.

The proposed water plant to be built in Rumford and the money for the water district would be a great asset to Rumford.

Rumford lost a business a few years ago while other towns have landed wind projects. This town is not what people call “business friendly.” If Rumford does not want a water contract with Poland Spring, perhaps Poland Spring will move to Andover and let that town benefit from it.
