An interesting pair of shoes is on exhibition in a store window on Lisbon street. They were worn by an American who served for several months in the British army and figured prominently in the Battle of Flanders. The shoes are hob-nailed, and the heels are made of solid leather, with steel plates. The owner of this relic of the present European struggle is now in New Hampshire, having been discharged because of wounds. He stated that the shoes were worn by him for three months without being removed from his feet.

When the work is done, the Lewiston fairgrounds will have a completely enclosed, and heated, grandstand and clubhouse.
