DEAR SUN SPOTS: Get out your Rolodex! Can you tell me where Becky’s Diner is in Portland? Also, do we have a Long John Silver’s in Maine? Do we have a Popeye’s Chicken in our area, other than the one located at the last rest area on the Maine Turnpike? Last of all, we used to get a real estate guide in the Sunday paper the first week of each month, that was stopped about two or three years ago. Is there any location where we can find real estate information, other than on the internet? Thanks for all the help you are to us readers. — No name, no town.

ANSWER: Becky’s Diner is at 390 Commercial St. in Portland, on Hobson’s Wharf.

There is not a Long John Silver’s location in Maine. Their closest location is 321 Louden Road in Concord, New Hampshire. The next closest location is 322 S. Broadway in Salem, New Hampshire.

There is a fairly new Popeyes restaurant in South Portland in the former Tim Hortons. It is at 291 Maine Mall Road.

Sundays are still a great day to look for real estate listings in the Sun Journal. Local open house ads are featured in the classified section of the Sun Journal on Saturdays and Sundays. If you are looking for a more lengthy and detailed publication, there are free real estate books available at most newsstands. Check out the newsstand at your local pharmacy, grocery store, pizza shop, etc.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Two years ago, with the help of Deb Soule, founder of Avena Botanicals in Rockland, The Center for Wisdom’s Women began to grow a medicinal plant called calendula and other herbs on their campus. Calendula has properties that are thought to be particularly helpful to women, especially those who have been abused. At the Center, women have begun to process the calendula and herbs into products — so far a salve, tea and salted herbs. The plan is to have it become a small social enterprise where women can learn job skills and earn a small income.

This year the Center is expanding the gardens with the addition of six raised beds at Whiting Farm. Donations of the following herbs would be welcomed: lavender, lady’s mantle, lemon balm, chamomile, comfrey, echinacea and yarrow. We also grow and use culinary herbs such as basil, chives, oregano, rosemary and parsley.

Come May, there will be a need for people to help with the gardening — preparing soil, planting, weeding, watering, harvesting, and drying and processing herbs. We have one Master Gardener who advises and have applied for a summer intern and VISTA worker. Someone with expertise in therapeutic horticulture would be a great asset.

We are searching for a donation of untreated lumber for the raised beds that will be built by the Goodwill Youth Build program. Compost and mulch are also needed — please note that we are trying to be as organic as possible in our urban setting. Gift cards from the Paris Farmers Union, Fedco and Provencher’s to purchase supplies, seeds and plants would be great to have too.

Please contact the Center by calling 207-513-3922 to find what is most needed. Those who volunteer or contribute plants or supplies will be given a packet of calendula seeds as a thank you! — The Center for Wisdom’s Women.
