LEWISTON — Fred Keene Bennett, 71, died March 18 at Marshwood Rehabilitation Facility in Lewiston, where he had been a patient since Feb. 22.
He was born in Lewiston on Oct. 5, 1945, to Stanley E. and Agnes Keene Bennett, and early on became part of the hardworking team of the family’s dairy farm. He was also a conscientious student who graduated from Buckfield High School’s Class of 1963, and shortly thereafter joined the U.S. Air Force.
In 1968, Fred married Pamelia Mae Tucker from Sumner. Pam, their daughters, Melonie and Marie, and their son, Merritt were partners in his endeavors as they went on to operate a dairy farm in New York, then back to Maine to settle at their Fort Hill Road, Gorham, homestead and dairy farm. Fred was also a skilled well-driller. His overall specialty was hard work.
Fred had a sense of humor that was commonly veiled by some serious eye-rolling. He also remained a brilliant overthinker all of his life.
His survivors include his wife Pam; daughters Melonie and Marie (Chris); son Merritt; grandchildren Wyatt and Jocelyn Bennett; sisters Carolyn Peaco (Neal) and Lorraine Brown (Seldon); brothers Roger and Brian (Nancy).
Fred was predeceased by his parents and older (infant) brother, Sidney.
