POLAND — The annual town meeting wasn’t held Saturday as planned because not enough people showed up, said Walter Gallagher, chairman of the Board of Selectmen.

“We didn’t make quorum,” Gallagher said. “We need 100 people” to attend to hold a town meeting, as spelled out in the town charter, he said. 

Sixty-five people showed up at the meeting.

Saturday’s storm likely kept some residents home, he said.

The meeting was to start at 9 a.m. Selectmen waited a while, hoping more would show up before calling it off, Gallagher said.

Before disbanding, town officials announced that the Business Recognition Award will be awarded to the Poland Animal Hospital.

Selectmen will decide at their Tuesday meeting when to rescheduled the annual town meeting, Gallagher said.
