AUGUSTA — Everett Arthur Getchell, 94, a resident of Litchfield, died Friday, March 31, at Togus Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Augusta with his family by his side.
He was born March 7, 1923, in East Angus, Quebec, Canada, the son of Orrin and Josie (Landry) Getchell. He attended school in Litchfield.
Everett proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as an equipment operator for Harry Crooker and Sons in Topsham. Everett did some boxing while he was in the Army and enjoyed playing baseball in the Litchfield baseball league.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda Pierce and Brenda Davis, both of Litchfield; four sons, Gaylen Getchell and his wife, Barbara, of Danielson, Conn., Duane Getchell of Litchfield, Rodney Getchell and his wife, Gigi, of Mt. Vernon, and Kendon Getchell and Brenda Gayton of Wales; two grandchildren, Craig and Kim Getchell, whom he helped care for when they were younger; 12 other grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; his sister, Orean Dione of Brunswick; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and three brothers, Irving, Roger and Ralph Getchell.
