RUMFORD — Andrew Arsenault of Rumford, daughter of Jeffrey and Shirley Arsenault, a senior at Mountain Valley High School, has been selected to receive the 2017 Principal’s Award, Principal Matthew Gilbert has announced. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.

Arsenault embodies everything that Mountain Valley High School values most in students. He is safe, respectful, responsible and involved. As an active member of the Mountain Valley community, Arsenault plays three varsity sports, serves as a class officer, is an active member of the Student Council and holds an office in the National Honor Society. He is recognized by his peers as a leader in the school community. He is the captain of multiple sports teams and is a member of the Captain’s Club. He is an active participant in his church youth group at Holy Savior. He attended the HOBY Leadership Conference, Boys State and participates in Career Explorations. In the classroom, Arsenault takes multiple Advanced Placement classes and college courses. He will graduate in the top 10 percent of his class.

Arsenault, Gilbert and the other award winners and their principals will attend the Honors Luncheon April 8 in Bangor. The luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of ten $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler. McGowan and Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association.

The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 140 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association, which represents Maine’s school administrators.
